Existing World

Potter Space is a Leeds based property company who develop and lease industrial and logistics units across their five estates spanning from Ripon to Ely. Having previously owned a sizable Logistics operation, they are on a transformation journey to evolve the business into a modern, progressive property company with their own construction team. Now providing homes to over 70 businesses, Potter Space are well on the way to realising their vision. 

Obstacle

With new leadership in place, Potter Space are committed to evolving and modernising the company. Part of this strategy relied on moving from their original Ripon headquarters to Leeds City Centre and investing in their people through training, developing their culture and improving their employer brand. 

Call to Action

They first called in Blue Tree Consulting to provide ad hoc HR support, which quickly progressed to advising them on all aspects of their crucial transition, and we now run Potter Space’s human resources operation on an outsourced basis. Blue Tree’s commission began with carrying out a root-and-branch review of employee-related policies, procedures and contracts - and introducing a sophisticated self-service HR portal for greater efficiency and transparency. Blue Tree also helped manage the complex process of transferring employees from the original headquarters site in Melmerby, near Ripon, to their state-of-the-art new Leeds base.

Acting as trusted confidant, Blue Tree MD Phil Marsland and team have supported the management team through this process of transformation, helping them to refine their vision for the future of Potter Space and the role their employees will need to play in achieving it.

The Challenge

Blue Tree Consulting’s priority was to create a strong HR infrastructure to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, protect the business against future potential risk and ensure its workforce receive appropriate support, training and development to maximise motivation and effectiveness levels. They are now helping to refine Potter Space’s cultural vision as it develops a more modern identity fit for its next 50 years. This includes establishing an employee wellbeing framework and developing an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) policy suited to its status as a forward-thinking company. 

The Transformation

Potter Space’s highly motivated management team maintain day-to-day operations and guide and implement the business strategy on behalf of the owning family. They now have the practical framework, brand and cultural clarity; a motivated workforce and the experienced, external counsel necessary to turn their significant ambition into reality and evolve Potter Space into the industry leader it deserves to be.

New World

The leadership team are now embracing the exciting future their business has ahead of it. Thanks to the work Blue Tree Consulting has done in establishing a firm people bedrock, they can now move forward with complete confidence that the practicalities are taken care of, and their cultural blueprint is evolving to support their goals. They can focus their full attention on growing the business, knowing that everyone is pulling in the same direction, with the same high levels of professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm.
